Padre

After spending some time recently in New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas, I was struck by the strength of many people I met there. They’d fled one home and rebuilt, just to need to flee again. Their resilience, persistence, intelligence, resourcefulness, family values, work ethics…..they have the characteristics that most Americans exalt. They are being driven out of a country they embody. So in these two images, I used a mix of Catholic and Soviet iconography to portray this mother and father as the American Ideal.
